Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has announced a six percent hike in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees, teachers and pensioners with effect from July 1. In a statement on Friday, Chief Minister
J. Jayalalithaa said the union government had announced a six per cent increase in DA with effect from July 1, 2015 based on which the state government will also provide six per cent hike in DA for Tamil Nadu government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners.
The DA hike will also be given to staff working in government aided educational institutions, employees under local bodies, village assistants in revenue department, noon meal organisers, child welfare organisers, anganwadi workers, panchayat secretaries / clerks in village panchayat and sanitary workers drawing special time scale of pay.
Ms Jayalalithaa also said that the increase in DA would be paid in cash with effect from July 1. While government employees will get an increase ranging between Rs 366 and Rs 4,620, pensioners will get hike from Rs 183 to Rs 2,310. This increase would benefit 18 lakh government employees and pensioners. The CM also said that with the DA revision the government would incur an additional expenditure of Rs 1,501.24 crore annually.
