11 from govt academy clear prelims

They have been sent to Thiruvananthapuram for civil service main training

KOZHIKODE: Well begun is half done, says the old proverb. The leading lights behind the regional centre of Kerala Civil Service Academy (KCSA), from which the first batch of students passed out, here, also feel the same.

Among the 110 candidates who appeared for the preliminary examination at the centre at West Hill Chungam, Kozhikode, 11 came out successful.

The academy functioning under the Centre for Continuing Education was inaugurated by education minister P. K. Abdu Rabb in January 2014.

Special officer of the centre Anil G. R. told Deccan Chronicle that almost all students who passed the preliminary exam hailed from ordinary backgrounds.

The 11 who passed prelims and those hopeful of passing the examination have already been moved to Thiruvananthapuram for further training for main examinations.

“At present we have no facilities. “I hope we will be able to ensure more facilities soon here itself”, he added.

Mr Anil also said that Kannur Collector P Bala Kiran and Kozhikode Collector N. Prasanth were the products of the Kerala Civil Service Academy, Thiruvananthapuram.

“The training was extremely useful for us as the faculty members there were also candidates appearing for the exam. So we could understand the changing trends”, said Jithin Rahman, one who passed the prelims.

“The teachers were so friendly and therefore we were free to ask them any doubts” he added. Sabna Sasidharan, another aspirant of civil service who passed the prelims told DC that they were did not have a proper foundation but could easily cover all the topics by January with the help of the teachers.

“We were divided into groups and each of us was given a topic related to our studies that helped us a lot” said Sabna.

The government has sanctioned 50 cents for the academy near Azhakodi Devi Temple which now functions at a temporary building.

The fee for the entire training is only Rs 35200 and those who clear their prelims are given free coaching for the main and also free air tickets for the interview at New Delhi apart from free accommodation.
