Giant-sized emojis for Twitter Direct Messages
Twitter recently removed the character limit for Direct Messages and now, in what will be the first major decision under new CEO Jack Dorsey, it has decided to make emojis bigger in DMs.
Twitter’s move resembles Facebook introducing the giant emoji feature on its Messenger platform in 2013 that worked on both the mobile app and site.
Twitter has already updated the emoji look in DMs in both mobile apps and on the website. With the emojis increased in size, it gives a feel of using stickers similar to that of other social media giants Facebook and Snapchat. Emojis will appear super sized when sent without text whereas it’ll be normal sized if sent along with text.
It remains to be seen whether the new life-sized emoji will be available on third party Twitter clients Tweetbot and Tweetbot.
“Emojis are already a big deal in Direct Messages. We just made them bigger. Send super-sized emojis today!” Twitter announced on it official account on the social media.
DMs have undergone a drastic change in recent times with Twitter trying to create a personalised messaging experience. The micro-blogging site enabled the group-messaging feature and also gave Twitter users the option of receiving DMs from not just your followers. Dropping the character limit for DMs being the latest move. There have been rumours that Twitter might also increase the character limit or remove them altogether for regular tweets but it could disband the platform’s style and approach drastically.
Bigger Emojis in DMs have been one of the first orders of business for new Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. The biggest challenge now is engaging its large database of users for longer periods of time on the micro-blogging site.
