Telangana's Water Grid project bowls over Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav
The UP govt would implement a similar scheme on pilot basis in Bundelkhand
Hyderabad: Telangana state’s Water Grid project, aimed at providing drinking water to every home in the state, has left Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav immensely impressed. TS minister for Panchayat Raj and IT K.T. Rama Rao, who met Mr Yadav in Lucknow on Thursday, was told that the Water Grid was a role model for entire country and the UP government would implement a similar scheme on pilot basis in Bundelkhand and later extend it to the entire state.
After a PowerPoint presentation, Mr Yadav and Mr Rao signed a MoU wherein the TS government would share technical know-how with the UP government on the project. Mr Rao informed Mr Yadav about the massive project details, allocation of 10 per cent of the water to industry, laying of fibre optic cable along with water pipelines to provide Internet facilities to people.
Mr Yadav reportedly asked how the project was funded. “The Water Grid is a role model for the country. Though TS is a new state, it has taken up a unique and massive scheme to quench the thirst of lakhs of people. I will visit TS along with senior engineers to see the ongoing works,” Mr Yadav said.
