Telangana: Colleges fake papers for affiliation

33 diploma colleges red flagged for submitting false documents
Hyderabad: Now, private colleges are even forging documents to obtain affiliations and continue functioning. Authorities in Telangana State have red flagged about 33 education diploma colleges in the state for submitting fake documents pertaining to the land in which the colleges are operating.
Notices will be served to these colleges and several others for submitting fake fire certificates.
There are about 273 private colleges offering Diploma in Education in Telangana State apart from 10 government colleges.
Most of these colleges have been served notices in the past for lack of faculty, own land and fire safety. Colleges are required to own assets like land, buildings and so on. But most of the private diploma colleges operate out of rented buildings.
To avoid being disaffiliated, about 33 private diploma colleges forged land documents and were caught when the documents were cross-verified with Revenue Department officials by the TS education ministry to ascertain their authenticity. About 22 colleges also faked fire safety certificates. About hundred other colleges are short on faculty. Notices are being served to all these colleges.
Meanwhile, minority colleges are said to be filling up seats with non-minority students though the rules state that 80 per cent students should be minorities.
It is learnt that minority colleges are manipulating counselling processes to fill students of their choice. Minority colleges can have their own Convenor (with just a government nominee on the admissions panel) to hold counselling under Single Window 2.
“Out of 2,100 seats, they filled just 11 seats in the first counselling and a hundred-odd in the second counselling. We can imagine how that is done,” sources said.
The government is mulling major changes in counselling process for admissions to diploma colleges.
