High tide alert in Andhra Pradesh

Waves may rise up to 1.78 metres in Vizag on Friday night

Hyderabad: Friday won’t be ideal to visit the beaches in Visakhapatnam or Kakinada as the tides are expected to rise up to 1.8 metres at night.

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) in Hyderabad has issued advisories to Andhra Pradesh and several other states on the East and West coasts of the country.

The INCOIS has predicted that tides could rise up to 1.73 metres in Visakhapatnam at around 10 pm on Friday while the surge would be close to 1.6 metres in the morning at around 10 am.

High swells will continue till Saturday, according to the warning.

“High swells in the range of 1.5-2.0 metres are forecast for 5:30 am on October 15 till 11:30 pm of October 17 along the coast of Andhra Pradesh between Dugarajapatnam to Baruva. Current speeds vary between 120-132 cm/sec,” INCOIS stated in an update. Baruva is in Srikakulam district while Dugarajapatnam is a port town in Nellore district.

On the East coast, there is a high wave warning for Andaman islands while it is only a high wave alert for Andhra Pradesh.

As per the alert, tides could rise up to 1.8 metres in Kakinada on Friday night and 1.76 metres on Saturday night. In Baruva, tides are likely to rise to 1.73 metres on Friday and 1.71 metres on Saturday.
