Bibi-Ka-Alam road repair work shoddy
The road outside Aashoorkhana Bibi-Ka- Alam was completely dug up
Hyderabad: The road outside Aashoorkhana Bibi-Ka- Alam was completely dug up for utility works but the patch work is so bad that women who came early morning from the first day of Moharram complained to the organisers to set it right. This Aashoorkhana houses the famous Bibi-ka-Alam and every morning, three hours are allotted exclusively for women who congregate for prayers. The trenches were dug for utility service cable wires but they were filled up in such a manner that the road is completely uneven. Bibi-ka-Alam has 5,000 people visiting it every day.
The road is very narrow and no scooters, bikes are allowed on the road as large number of women, children and men visit the place throughout the day. Mir Firasat Ali Baqri, one of the organisers, said, “Since the last one week, we have been asking the contractor to finish the works fast and lay an even road. But they have merely done patchwork and gone.” At the same time, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation teams which were formed last year for sanitation purposes are not present this year.
Mohammed Zain, a social worker at Darusshifa said, “The same arrangements of last year should have been replicated this year. We are having too many overflowing bins near the Aashoorkhanas and as there are a large number of people gathering, it results in foul smell. The government must look into these aspects for the next 10 days as there will be lots of believers coming to the Old City.”
