AP Legislature to have winter session in new capital region
Hyderabad: The winter session of Andhra Pradesh Legislature will be held in the state's permanent capital region near Vijaywada.
This was decided at an all-party meeting convened by Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K Siva Prasad on Friday.
The meeting favoured undertaking temporary constructions to conduct the session for Assembly and Council, a release issued by the Speaker's Media Liaison Officer said.
TDP Rajya Sabha member G Mohan Rao, who attended the meeting as a special invitee, has been asked to go into the issue of expenditure and proposals for construction by different firms, it said.
The details of expenditure estimates would be submitted to the state government after obtaining the relevant information, the release said.
Post-bifurcation last year, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana currently share the legislature buildings in Hyderabad, the common capital for 10 years.
There is a demand from the people in AP to hold the legislature session in the state's new capital region, it added.
The foundation stone for the capital city of Amaravati is scheduled to be laid on October 22. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited for the event.
