17 new Clues teams for Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Each division of Hyderabad will get a Clues team. Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma on Thursday launched 17 new Clues teams for working in the Hyderabad Commissionerate area.

With this the strength of the city Clues team will go up from 10 officers to 150. Nearly 48 crime scene officers will be inducted in the Clues wing after a six-month training in investigation techniques.

Clues teams play a key role in processing crime and collecting physical evidence from the crime scene. The Hyderabad Clues team helped the police in cracking major cases like the kidnap attempt on industrialist Nityananda Reddy and the firing at the SR Nagar ATM a few months ago.

With only a single team working in the city it was difficult for the police to attend to all crimes. The Hyderabad police came up with this new idea to minimise response time and to collect both macro and macro evidences from the crime scene.

"Similar teams will be launched across Telangana very soon. These teams will assist investigating officers in investigating crimes. These teams will enable us to solve crimes fast," said DGP Anurag Sharma during the launch.

The teams consisting of forensic experts reconstruct the crime scene and provide investigative leads for the detection of crimes like property and bodily offences, fire accidents and scene of explosions.

"The functioning of Clues teams is aimed at improving detection of crimes and conviction rates," the DGP added.

The setting up of Clues teams at the divisional level will enable scientific assessment of every crime scene. Each team will be provided with nearly 20 gadgets like a high resolution digital camera, full HD camera and forensic light source.

The kits given to the teams will enable them to collect biological, latent print, footwear, tyre track, trace and digital evidence.

This quick response of teams is vital in the collection of clues from scenes of offence as things can get disturbed with the passage of time.
