Losing weight can safeguard you against cancer, says study

This is probably because fat has a gradual effect on our hormones

While the world is facing a disastrous obesity epidemic, those who are on the heavier side have another good reason to shed those extra pounds – cancer. A study has claimed that a number of cancers are strongly linked to obesity.

The researchers analysed data connected to five million people to prove the links between obesity and cancer. It was found that for every five point increase in a person’s body mass index (BMI), they could be 62 percent more likely to get diagnosed with uterus cancer and 25 percent more likely to develop cancer of the kidney. This is probably because fat has a gradual effect on our hormones.

Other types of cancer that could pose a threat to obese people are breast cancer, endometrial cancer and even ovarian cancer. The findings of this study are published in the Lancet journal, according to the Daily Mail.
