Industry experts have said that it is indeed the premium brands that are propelling the growth of the tequila market

If there’s a spirit of the moment, then it’s got to be tequila. The Mexican tipple is enjoying a reinvention of sorts as perception of it is slowly moving away from the throat-burning shots to a luxury drink that needs to be savoured, slowly.

David Beckham recently revealed in an interview that his wife, Victoria (Posh Spice), has rediscovered a love for tequila after he picked up a bottle for her during a visit to Mexico. Other reports show the emergence of luxury brands of tequila in recent years. Celebrities like George Clooney, Justin Timberlake and P. Diddy have been retailing their labels of premium tequila for a while now.

 

Industry experts have said that it is indeed the premium brands that are propelling the growth of the tequila market. And their quality — these premium tequilas have done away with the throat-scalding, hangover-inducing traits of their cheaper counterparts — is the main reason why. The UK and US have already jumped on to the premium tequila wagon. So is India next?
