Karimnagar: Gone are the days where singers would release audio CDs. Internet has opened new avenues for singers and dancers. Folk singers of district have now started using YouTube for promoting songs of Bathukamma festival.
They could reach global audience and gained reputation in many countries. Incidentally, this medium has become the best source for learning the songs to women.
Vollala Vani, a folk singer from Vidyanagar of the city, said that she had released two songs on YouTube. One of her video song, Pudami poththilla nundi puruduposhukoni parimallinchinayi enno-nnno povulu, became popular on the internet based medium. The song was liked by 15,531 account holders on YouTube. The song tries to illustrate importance of various flowers used in preparing idols of Bathukamma.
“I have received calls from Dubai, the USA and UK after uploading the song on YouTube. Many appreciated for uploading it. Many folk singers are now increasingly relying on YouTube following growing usage of smart-phones and Internet. You don’t need to pay anything and can reach people across the globe by using this medium,” she reasoned.
Some songs found on the YouTube include Chittu chittula gumma..shivuni muddula gumma was viewed 2,11,278 times and Kalavari kodalu uyyalo.. Kanaka mahalaxmi uyyalo, which had 26,781 views. The song Isuka tinnelalo gouramma, toli ilavelupu neevamma produced by V6 news channel is one of the most popular one on the YouTube. So far, it was watched by 9,19,207 times.
