Tamil Nadu gears up for first Youth Renaissance Day
Students will lead a rally from the school in which Kalam studied in Rameswaram
Chennai: Student rallies in every district capital of the state are among the slew of programmes planned by the Tamil Nadu government for the first Youth Renaissance Day on October 15.
The state government had declared that it will observe the birth anniversary of former Indian president A.P. J. Abdul Kalam as Youth Renaissance Day in August. School and college students numbering 500 will hold rallies at 9 am and carry placards of the importance of Renaissance Day. The winners of a science-related oratory and essay competition held for school and college students in all districts on October 13, will be awarded certificates and prizes by ministers of the State in a function tomorrow.
The function, to be held in the CUIC auditorium in Anna University at 4.30 pm, will see the school education, higher education and sports and youth welfare ministers participate and distribute the prizes. Cultural programmes by school and college students is a part of the itinerary.
Besides, the Birla Planetarium will have distinguished astrophysicist speakers talking about various aspects of space science to the public. All school students will listen to topics of discussion centred on the ideals as patronised by Abdul Kalam during the day. Also, students will lead a rally from the school in which Kalam studied in Rameswaram till the house he lived as part of the celebrations.
