First meeting of the panel, consisting of two members from each party, was held in CPI(M)’s state headquarters in T Nagar
Chennai: The eight-member panel of People’s Welfare Front comprising MDMK, CPI (M), CPI and VCK met in the city on Wednesday to draft a common minimum programme to project itself as an alternative to Dravidian parties in the state.
The first meeting of the panel, consisting of two members from each party, was held in CPI(M)’s state headquarters in T Nagar to give shape to the CMP, which will be finalised on October 23. According to sources in PWF, the CMP would be the basis for election manifesto to be released for the 2016 Assembly polls.
“We are drafting the CMP for the front which we want to continue even beyond the 2016 Assembly polls. It will not be an election focused one. We want to build a long standing platform for the parties to build people’s movement,” a leader of the front who attended the meet said.
“Besides the 15-point charter of demands on which the front was founded on July 27, the CMP would cover the demands of all section of people with particular focus on the issues that were neglected by the Dravidian parties. A Left party leader said that a draft consolidated CMP would be prepared based on the demands the four parties in the next meeting scheduled on October 20.
“The CMP will be finalised on October 23 when leaders of the front meet in the city to decide on the electoral strategy for the 2016 polls,” the leader said. The meeting was attended by CPI (M)’s K. Balakrishnan and P. Sampath, CPI’s K. Subarayan and K Palanisamy, MDMK’s M. Senthil Athiban and V. Eswaran and VCK’s D. Ravikumar, Sinthanaiselvan and SS Balaji.
