THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Over 1.5 lakh candidates are expected to file their nominations for the local bodies poll in the state. The nominations which ended on Wednesday, are for 22,000 constituencies spread across the grama panchayat, block panchayat, district panchayats , municipalities and corporations.
Till Tuesday , over 56,000 candidates had filed their nominations and about 1 lakh were expected to file on the last day.
In 2010 local bodies poll, 1,49,649 candidates had filed their nominations. The break up was as follows; grama panchayt 1,13,978, bock panchayat 14,037, district panchayat 2576, municipality 15,304 and corporation 3754.
The scrutiny of nominations will be held on October 15. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is on October 17 when a clear picture of the total number candidates in the fray would be known.
First phase of polling on November 2 - Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod. Second Phase of polling November 5 – Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram.
