Ongole Municipal Corporation to get Rs 390 crore under Amrut

Chirala municipality will get funds from the Centre to develop infrastructure
Ongole: Union ministry of urban development is likely to sanction Rs 390 crore to the Ongole Municipal Corporation at a meeting to be held in Delhi on October 21 under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Transformation Scheme to meet drinking water needs of residents of city for the next 20 years.
Similarly, various municipalities will get financial assistance of Rs 660 crore to develop infrastructure and drinking water scheme under the scheme.
OMC commissioner S. Venkata Krishna has already met additional secretary, union ministry of urban development Sameer Sharma and submitted detailed project report with a state government recommendation to approval for the project.
Meanwhile, MLA Damach-erla Janardhan had already met Union minister for urb-an development M.Venkaiah Naidu and requested to sanction the water scheme.They are expecting that the Cent-re will sanction the scheme under the Amrut scheme to lay pipeline from Gundlak-amma reservoir to draw 0.78 TMC water to supply drinking water to the residents of the city.
If Nagarjunasagar canal is closed, there would be no drinking water release to Ongole. That is why the government permitted OMC to draw drinking water from it. The OMC is ready to call tenders after completing the necessary formalities, as soon as project is sanctioned.
The OMC will also construct necessary reservoirs to store water under the scheme. The OMC could able to give 24x7 drinking water supply to the residents of the city.
At present OMC is supplying drinking water alternative days, in stead of once in three days. If the scheme is sanctioned, the OMC will solve drinking water problems within two years.
