Winter sets in at Vizag Agency; Lambasingi coolest
Visakhapatnam: Winter seems to have officially set in the Vizag Agency with the temperature dropping for the past few days. Vizagites have been trickling to Lambasingi, Dallapalle, Minumuluru, Araku Valley, RV Nagar, Sileru and a few other areas in Vizag Agency to enjoy the cold wave and fog.
Met officials said that temperature dipped in Vizag Agency ushering in the winter season while it shot up in Vizag city and a few other areas in Coastal Andhra Pradesh with a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius recorded in Tuni in East Godavari district. Vizag city and other towns in the CAP registered about 35 degree Celsius. The Southwest Monsoon is still active in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and yet to withdraw from the peninsula.
According to officials of Regional Agriculture Research Centre (RARC), Chintapalle, the mercury plummeted at Lamba-singi, a small hamlet under Chintapalle mandal in Vizag Agency recording the coldest morning on Wednesday during the onset of winter while the minimum temperature fell to 15 degree Celsius.
Similarly, Paderu reco-rded 13 degree Celsius while Minumuluru 10 degree Celsius. They also said that thick fog enveloped the Agency in the early hours and remained so till 9 am. Even the day temperature was moderate and comfortable.
Visiting Lambasingi is proving to be a great experience, mainly because the tiny hamlet provides cool weather unlike any other place in the entire state even during the onset of winter, says Tilak Kumar N, an MBA final year student of a private college in Vizag, who visited Lambasingi on Tuesday.
People in Lambasingi, Chintapalle, Minumuluru and RV Nagar in Vizag Agency on Wednesday woke up to a blanket of think fog covering most of the area. The RARC officials said that Lamba-singi, which is located more than 3,500 mts above the sea level on the Eastern Ghats and the mercury levels will further dip in the peak winter and sometimes dips to 1 degree Celsius.
