MANUU student elections postponed
It is due to the ongoing protests in the university
Hyderabad: Students’ union elections, scheduled for Thursday in the Maulana Azad National Urdu University (Manuu) were postponed on Wednesday due to the ongoing protests in the university.
Besides, the proctor, Prof. Abdul Wahid, who was the chief returning officer for the election, had on Monday agreed to resign as demanded by the protesting students. As per sources, the candidates were informed about postponement of the elections an that a new date would be decided later. The protests continued to rock the university on Wednesday, even as a joint action committee, comprising members of Manuu teachers’ associations, was set up to address the ongoing crisis.
The JAC listed 12 observations in a letter sent to the university.“The in-charge Vice-Chancellor must own up the responsibility of the entire orchestrated incident and must tender his resignation forthwith. He should hand over charge to the senior-most professor of the university,” the letter read. The unilateral decision of the university administration to invite a former Vice-Chancellor even as protests were on was condemned by the JAC.The JAC also demanded removal of the chief vigilance officer, the proctor and the registrar in-charge, besides the honorary guesthouse director, and the media coordinator.Meanwhile, the students demanded that all the cases or complaints against them must be dropped.
