Chennai: When DMK organ Murasoli hit the stands Wednesday morning, it had more than enough ingredients to rouse cadres’ curiosity. First, there is no visible obstacle in the Karuna clan now, except perhaps Karunanidhi himself and his estranged son Alagiri, for M.K. Stalin to stake claim for the party throne. Second, Karunanidhi may not be all that averse to let Stalin step into his shoes some time in the near future even.
Confirming these messages were two pages in Murasoli — page 5 and 8 — that carried the speech of Kanimozhi, the only other politically active member of the family. The DMK Rajya Sabha MP put all her weight behind brother Stalin and said, “Tamil Nadu politics has started revolving around thalapathi Stalin.”
A statement she had not dared say in the past, when she always reiterated that her father party president Karunanidhi was the centre of attraction of the state polity. DMK insiders known for their proximity to Cenotaph Road (Stalin lives there) were not averse to sharing their joy at seeing the speech appear in Murasoli. A party second rung leader requesting anonymity said,
“Indeed, she said that at a meeting organized to talk about Stalin’s Namakku Naame tour. But, to publicly call him the centre of attraction of TN politics shows a significant change.”

You remember, there was not a word about Stalin’s Tirunavannamalai youth meet, which preceded the Namakku Naame tour, in Murasoli a few months back. That was because the meeting happened without Kalaignar’s knowledge. But, this speech of Kanimozhi, precisely the content, got thalaivar’s nod. That sums it up.”
When asked, a reserved Kanimozhi however told Deccan Chronicle over phone that, “Every party is now targeting him (Stalin). That is because politics in Tamil Nadu now revolves around him. He has put the DMK in a hyperactive mode.
“His recent activities, especially the Namakku Naame tour has caught the imagination of the people. Our rivals’ criticism of the tour is proof of its success. It has also showed that DMK is always reachable, unlike others,” said Kanimozhi.
