GHMC stays mum as land grab continues
Even after filing a lot of complaints, no action was taken
Hyderabad: Residents of Rajender Reddy Nagar Colony, Chandanagar, are protesting the GHMC’s move to regularise nine plots in parks and open spaces of the colony and on government land, and giving building permission to the applicants.
The colony residents had approached the National Green Tribunal, which had ordered a status quo, halting construction in the parks and open spaces of the colony. However, the land grabbers have once again started the construction. Even after filing several complaints, the GHMC has not taken any action, the residents complained.
Rajender Reddy Nagar Colony was developed on a parcel of land spread over 19 acre 20 guntas as per the draft layout of the HUDA. The colony comprises 227 plots of different sizes. As per the rules, the GHMC cannot give permission for any construction in green areas, parks and open spaces.
Mr Kasireddy Bhaskara Reddy, president of Janam Kosam and member of the residents welfare society, said, "In spite of clear provisions in law and a Supreme Court judgement, GHMC officials have colluded with a few land grabbers and created false documents, showing green area, park and open spaces in the colony as plots, and are allowing construction. The GHMC has also given permission for construction of few a buildings on recreation space."
"One of the land grabbers encroached on the amenities area and created fake plot numbers 257 and 258, while another turned the park area into plot numbers 259,260,261 and 262. Another person, supported by the GHMC, grabbed the park and green belt area and created fake plot numbers 228 and 256. In spite of complaints made to the circle office, nobody turned up for inspection," said vice president Mr Nune Surender. Over 200 residents of the colony protested in front of the GHMC head office on Wednesday and submiited a report.
