Fighter couple back in poll fray
KOTTAYAM: They are a couple of fighters. And winners, too. Congress candidates MP Santhosh Kumar and wife Bindu Santhosh Kumar in Kottayam municipality are back in the election race, for the consecutive fourth and third time, respectively. They bank on the projects they had designed and implemented in the municipality during their previous terms, in which they also served as chairperson.
Mr Santhosh Kumar, who had won from the Kallupurackal, Illickal and Pulimackal wards, is contesting from the Illickal ward this time around. Ms Bindu had won from the Kallupurackal and Illickal wards and is contesting from Pulimakkal ward now.
Santhosh was the chairman of the municipality for two years from 2012 December 5. “A bypass road connecting Thiruvarppy, Illickal, Nattakom and Panachikadu is my biggest achievement,” he told Deccan Chronicle. “The second phase of the bypass will be my focus once I get reelected.”
Santhosh, trained in an ITI, said a political leader can make a difference to the lives of people. “What motivates us to contest again is the relationship we maintain with the people of our wards,” he said.
Ms Bindu, who began her political career as an activist of the Kudumbashree, also served as the chairperson of the municipality for one and a half years from 2005.
