Vijayawada: A farmer of Mirzapuram village of Nuzvid mandal attempted suicide by consuming poison in front of the Indian Bank at Gollapalli village on Wednesday.
According to information, the farmer K. Chennaiah of Mirzapuram village deposited around Rs 3.5 lakh in the Indian Bank at Gollapudi some time ago. At present, his account would have a balance of Rs 4.5 lakh.
As Mr Chennaiah tried to draw the amount on Wednesday, the bank account was shown with no such deposit.
Alleging that the bank manager had cheated him, Mr Chennaiah attempted suicide by consuming poision, which he brought along with him.
Locals who found Chennaiah battling for life rushed him to Nuzvid hospital. Police too arrived at the spot and took up investigation.
