Calicut University vice-chancellor selection to breach deadline
KOZHIKODE: The selection of Calicut University vice-chancellor will be delayed further as the High Court stayed the process following a petition of teachers challenging its notification.
The rule says the search committee should provide the names of candidates to the governor, who is also the chancellor, within three months. The deadline expires October 29.
Raj Bhavan sources said the date could be extended by another month on the search committee's request. However, they have not yet approached the governor for extension.
The Muslim League, which calls the shots in the case of Calicut VC selection, has also not finalised its nominee.
"Now the civic polls are notified, we could not finalise the nominations. Since there is a scope for extension, we think we will get enough time to decide on it," said K. K. Syed Abid Hussain Thangal, the Senate's representative in the search panel.
Governor P. Sathasivam constituted the three-member committee on July 29 with chief secretary Jiji Thomson as its convener.
The third member is UGC representative and VC of Central University of Gujarat, Prof S.A. Bari.
