Ankapur chicken gains in popularity across globe

Delicacy from Nizamabad town tickles connoisseur’s palate since the 1990s

Nizamabad: The Ankapur chicken is making Telangana cuisine famous across the globe. A visit to Nizamabad district would be incomplete without tasting this delicious, spicy country chicken preparation which is widely available at specially set up curry points or hotels. Eateries sporting the Ankapur chicken brand can be found in all towns in north Telangana districts.
 
The dish has been growing in popularity in the last two decades. In Nizama-bad, one can buy Ankapur chicken in bulk for `600 per kg, which includes a 1 kg rice. A single eater will have to shell out roughly `130 for a plate.
 
Mr Malla Goud, owner of Ankapur Chicken Center in Nizamabad said that his father Pedda Rama Goud of Ankapur had pioneered the dish in the village arou-nd 40 years back. The farmers of Ankapur liked country chicken and would regularly order the dish, he recalled.
 
Mr Goud added that the family had introduced Ankapur chicken in Niza-mabad in the late 1990s and it has become hugely popular since then. It is also a must have for NRIs when they visit. “We are proud that the dish, named after Ankapur, has become famous among people,” he said, adding that orders were regularly placed from the neighboring Nanded city in Maharashtra .Mr Dayakar, a real estate businessman said that he regularly sent parcels of Ankapur chicken to his fr-iends in Hyderabad. 
 
“We pick up Ankapur chicken for our near and dear ones whenever someone goes to the Twin Cities,” he said, adding that compared to multicuisine restaurant prices, Ankapur chicken was affordable for all.
