Ongole: In a suspected case of dowry killing, a 21-year-old woman was on Thursday found dead under mysterious circumstances at her residence in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, police said. The incident took place in Prasanthi Nagar of Gliddalur town, they said.
According to the in-laws of the woman, identified as Pikkili Praveena, she died after falling off from the stairs.
However, parents of the victim have alleged that she was killed for dowry following which her father S Venkateswarlu lodged a complaint against her husband and in laws, Sub Divisional Police Officer Sriharibabu said.
Praveena had got married six months ago to Shivshankar, who was working in the Army.
All this while, the woman was staying with her in-laws alone in the absence of the husband, who went away for duty soon after their marriage six months ago. He returned home recently amid complaints of dowry harassment, Sriharibabu said.
Giddallur police have registered a dowry death case under IPC 304 B and further investigations are underway.
