Mira is my wife, not an actor: Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor on his fears, wife Mira, family and his upcoming film Shaandaar

Shahid Kapoor is enjoying married life to the hilt and he says that he has a great equation with his wife Meera. He thinks that their different personalities work for them. “Probably we are different and I think this is what works. She makes me feel normal and I love coming back home after work. I think the fact that she does not belong to the industry is what works for us,” he says.

He adds that they met thanks to his mother Neelima. So it was kind of an arranged marriage? We ask. “Meeting each other is important, how and when is not so important. It is your feelings for her that matters eventually,” he says, adding, “We met, spent time, liked each other, that is what matters. You should be with somebody who you feel you can be with. It doesn’t matter how you meet them.”

He also clarifies that there are no plans of Mira joining films. “Mira is my wife, not an actor,” he says.

And marriage has made him more responsible, he says. “I had been living independently for almost nine years. I started living in my own house when I was 24. When you get married, it makes you feel a lot more responsible. Marriage grounds you and makes you feel settled. You get to know where your future lies. Every time you take a decision, you feel you need to think more about it because there is another person in your life as well.”

Talking about the a fairytale destination wedding in his forthcoming film Shaandaar, he says, “I did not get an opportunity to know much about destination weddings until I did Shaandaar. The weddings that I had attended were boring.”

What are his fears as far as his career is concerned? “I do not like to repeat myself. I focus on what went wrong and improve on them. I am not keen on the result but I always like to do the right things in life. I take my own decisions… so if it turns out to be wrong I have to blame only myself.”

“In this short journey of about 10-12 years, I feel quite satisfied. And the love I get from people makes me feel great. This connect with the people keeps me going. I am happy and grateful to my fans and others who have allowed me to do what I am doing, their appreciation means a lot to me,” he adds.

About his chemistry with dad Pankaj Kapoor he says, “In Shaandaar, I am the suitor, we are on opposite sides and he hates me to the core. In reality of course we love each other and unlike in the film, where we are always clashing, I dare not discuss much with him. I love and respect him a lot. I do learn a lot from him but I cannot be compared to him at all. His performances are many more and far better than mine. He is an icon in his own capacity as far as acting is concerned.”

All praises for his sister Sanah, who debuted in Shaandaar, Shahid says, “She was outstanding; in her very first scene the way she faced the camera — she was like super-confident. I am proud about what she has done. I think it’s in our blood; like I started without people knowing whose kid I was, similarly she too surprised us by giving an audition and making it to the Bollywood horizon merely on her talent. Looks like it’s a family tradition.”

“It took me almost 15 years to work with dad…and I would definitely like to work with mom too. Let’s see,” he concludes.
