New internal panel at Administrative Staff College of India

The complaint was made by the victim in July 2015 but the victim alleged that the ICC did not conform to SC guidelines

Hyderabad: The Court of Governors of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) has decided to reconstitute the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to probe the sexual harassment complaint made by a senior woman faculty member of the Central government institution.

Accepting the demand of the victim, the Court of Governors decided that the ICC should be reconstituted as per the Vishaka guidelines of the Supreme Court with a senior faculty member of the ASCI.

A prominent feminist has also been selected to serve on the panel to probe the sexual harassment complaint made by the faculty member against the director general of ASCI.

A member of the Court of Governors said on condition of anonymity that a majority of the members of the court were in favour of the victim and recommended that the committee be reconstituted as per the Vishaka guidelines and then restart the probe.

The complaint was made by the victim in July 2015 but the victim alleged that the ICC did not conform to SC guidelines.

The victim had also filed a petition in the Hyderabad High Court contending that the committee formed by the ASCI violated Supreme Court guidelines and sought a direction to the institution to conform to rules.

On Monday, in view of the meeting of Court of Governors the hearing of the case at the HC was posted to October 26.

A senior ASCI faculty member had filed a complaint against DG Ravi Kant alleging sexual harassment. Ravi Kant denied the charges and said that he was innocent.
