GHMC layed the foundation stone of Model Market
Hyderabad: The construction of model markets started in the city on Tuesday with the GHMC laying the foundation stone. With a budget of Rs 130 crore, the corporation will construct over 200 model markets costing Rs 60 lakh each. The commissioner has already sanctioned Rs 90 crore to construct 170 markets and the tender process for 165 has been completed. Each circle will have 10 markets of 200 to 500 sq. yd.
The market complexes will be of two floors with the ground floor for vegetables and eatables, pharmacies, ATMs and other provisions. The second floor would be for meats, groceries and dry food. The GHMC currently has only 30 markets in the city catering to a population of around one crore. Officials said that there should be at least one model market for every 10,000 people.
