Rajahmundry: A four-year-old girl studying in LKG at a private school was allegedly made to sit on a hot iron slide, causing severe burns on her back as a corporal punishment after she attended the calls of nature in the classroom at Eluru in West Godavari on Monday.
As per a complaint by the girl’s parents, Jwalasri went to Hope English medium school at Buggayyapeta of Eluru rural mandal as usual on Monday. She urinated in the classroom and this angered her class-teacher. As a punishment, the teacher made the girl sit on the iron slide for some time.
On Tuesday, the girl’s parents and locals went to the school and questioned the teacher Yarlagadda Anjani Devi and the management. The girl’s father Mallikarjuna Rao lodged a complaint with Eluru rural police. He submitted that this punishment was supported by the ayah Anjana Devi and principal D. Dhana Lakshmi.
Accordingly, cops booked a case, but later defended the school, saying the ayah helped the girl.
The school authorities said that the girl herself climbed up the slide, which was hot, causing burns on her back.
