Aide claims jalasamadhi by Swami Saswathikananda

Subash, a former aide, had offered to undergo polygraph test during the investigation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the Crime Branch is examining the scope of reopening the Swami Saswathikananda death case on the basis of the fresh allegations that pointed fingers at Mr Vellapally Natesan and his son Tushar Vellapally, a former aide of the Swami came up with a statement that Saswathikananda had attained ‘Jalasamadhi.’

Subash, a former aide of Saswasthikananda, told a television channel that the allegations that the Swami was murdered were baseless.

He also said that he had offered to undergo a polygraph test earlier during the investigation. He strongly felt that the Swami attained ‘Jalasamadhi.’

The bruises on the body were caused while fishing out the body. Moreover, it was also not easy to physically overpower the swami, he said.

The Crime Branch team led by ADGP (Crimes) is examining whether there was any scope for further investigation.

The team may contact bar owner Biju Ramesh and Saswathikananda's sister Santha to find if they had any evidence in support of their allegations.

Based on the Crime Branch's opinion, the government will take a decision whether to reopen the case.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala forwarded a petition sent by Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan seeking a high-level probe into the allegations pertaining to the micro-finance scheme of SNDP Yogam to additional chief secretary (Home) Nalini Netto for further action, according to sources at the minister's office.
