KOCHI: At least 19 LDF candidates, including K.J. Jacob, the opposition leader in Kochi Corporation, have filed nominations on Tuesday. Mr Jacob is contesting from Kaloor South.
Other LDF candidates in the corporation are Monamma Kokkad (Giri Nagar), P. R. Ranish (Perumanoor), V.A. Sreejith (Palluruthy), Prof. Nirmala (Elamkulam), Sunila Selvan (Pullardesam), P.S. Viju (Konam), Sunitha Salam (Chakkaraparambu) and Sulabha Teacher (Nambyapuram).
Ten LDF candidates have filed nominations for district panchayat - P.K Soman (Pulluvazhi), P.S Shaila (Moothakunnam), P.J Varghese (Malayattoor), Bini Davis (Kodanad), A.P Subhash (Udayamperoor), Sherly Varghese (Mulanthuruthy), Anitha Sheelan (Kumbalangi), V.A Mohanan (Puthencruz), A. Latha (Nedumbassery), M.P Paulose (Karukutty), Laly Kuriachan (Vengola) and Mummy Century (Keezhmad).
No prominent UDF candidates have entered the fray on Tuesday though Wednesday is the last date for filing nominations.
Bharatiya Janata Party has announced its second list of candidates for the Kochi Corporation election.
Veteran leader and sitting councilor Syamala S. Prabhu is to be fielded from her sitting seat Cheralayi while party district president P.J. Thomas will contest from Panampilli Nagar.
With second list, the BJP led NDA has fielded candidates from 72 out of the total 74 seats. Syamala Anirudhan will contest from Fort Kochi while R.S. Sreekumar will contest from Mattancherry.
