Diet drinks actually fuel obesity, researchers claim

It's because they might increase our cravings for sweet and unhealthy food

Contrary to popular perception, diet drinks may actually make you overweight. Are you wondering how? This is because these low-calorie beverages increase our cravings for sweet and unhealthy food and even trigger type 2 diabetes, researchers say.

Scientists at the University of Texas assessed the lifestyles of 749 Mexican-American and European-American people, for a period of nine years, in which 466 participants survived. They kept a track of the number of fizzy drinks each person consumed and whether or not they were diet drinks.

The researchers discovered that those who drank at least one diet drink a day gained at least three in inches to their waistlines, according to a report published in the Daily Mail.
