Hyderabad: Security was beefed up in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh following an anonymous letter threatening to target the Chief Ministers of the two states and important installations in AP.
The letter received by officials of the Visakhapatnam airport stated that they would blow up the airport at the port city and the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, Nellore, among other installations.
The letter, written in Telugu and purportedly originating from Nirmal town of Adilabad district of Telangana, was sent via post to the Visakhapatnam airport director.
Extra vigil at important installations:
Senior officials from Telangana said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s was foolproof. They said extra vigil would be mounted on important installations in Hyderabad. Visakhapatnam police commissioner Amit Garg confirmed that the letter had been received a few days ago.
Security has been beefed up at Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota with the Central Industrial Security Force deploying additional forces and enhancing the vigil on the coastal area abutting the spaceport.
“Whatever measures are necessary for security have been taken,” said group director P. Vijayasaradhy Nellore SP Gajarao Bhupal said that security drills had been carried out and security personnel and intelligence agencies were on the alert.
