List of officials serving in post for years prepared
Chennai: District collectors and top police officials who have been serving for more than four years in a post are under the State's scanner. With model code of conduct expected early next year, Election Commission may initiate transfers on many of them, Secretariat sources said.
The posts of Collectors, Corporation Commissioners and city police commissioners are the top slots that are usually vulnerable to transfers ahead of polls. To avoid any political controversies and embarrassment to officials, transfers are usually done and this is a regular procedure ahead of general elections, a senior government official said.
While the top brass of the city police has already undergone frequent transfers, data on district Superintendents of police and their date of joining is now under study. Similarly, Collectors serving for more than three years in the same district will also have to face transfer, which is a regular norm ahead of elections. But if the Election Commission finds a particular officer fit for poll duty, the Commission, through the State CEO, can revert the services of the IAS/ IPS official concerned.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the Tamil Nadu Government transferred V. Santha, Managing director, Salem starch sago manufacturers' service industrial cooperative society to act as Director of Sericulture.
The order issued by chief secretary K. Gnanadesikan also notified reversion of Atulya Misra, formerly Chennai port trust chairman, to state cadre and posted him to act as commissioner of revenue administration.
