Justice Narayana Kurup wants police to beef up convent security
KOTTAYAM: Police complaints authority chairman Justice Narayana Kurup has said the installation of CCTV cameras and rearing guard dogs could be part of sprucing up the security at convents.
Justice Kurup said this in the course of his discussions with authorities at Lisieux Convent in Pala, where Sr Amala was murdered by a youth, allegedly with a history of mental ailment.
The suspect had also admitted to killing another nun. Justice Kurup said authorities should themselves think of strengthening and safety and security at establishments such as convents.
The police should also ensure steps to prevent crimes than be content chasing criminals after crimes are committed.
He said he would seriously examine charges that the cops had not shown the level of alertness expected of them while dealing with complaints of attacks on convents.
Sr Amala Case Action Council convener Eby Jose, who had complained to the judge about the murder at Lisieux Convent, Msgr Joseph Kollamparampil and Msgr Joseph Kuzhinjalil were also present at the interaction.
