Kochi: Forest department officials seized ivory weighing 487 kilogrammes worth crores of rupees which were concealed in a house in Delhi on Sunday. The officials came back victoriously with the seized items on Monday.
With this, the tale of a couple of elephant poaching cases across Kerala have been solved. It was the revelations of the arrested Umesh Aggrawal, the key accused in the elephant poaching cases, that helped officials execute the operation with the support of Delhi police.
It was Surendra Rawat, the aide of Umesh Aggrawal, who showed the secret place near Vijaya Park in East Delhi where the ivory was kept.
Earlier, Umesh denied the allegation but with the arrest of Preston and Brite Aji, who supplied ivory to him, Umesh was forced to disclose everything.
It was at a rented house that the ivory was kept and the house owners were told that they were some other goods. Umesh supplied ivory to people for cash on demand at regular intervals and all the sold ivory has also been confiscated.
Once the secret location was traced, a team was formed and moved to Delhi on October 10. Rawat was taken into custody on the very next day. The operation lasted for 12 hours and it ended on Sunday.
