Central Crime Station police busted an online piracy syndicate
Hyderabad: Central Crime Station police busted an online piracy syndicate run by two engineering student and an MBA graduate on Monday. The trio had uploaded and shared new Telugu films like Rudramadevi, Baahubali, Balebale Magadivoi on different websites for money.
The main suspect, 20-year-old Prashanth Chaitankar from Srinivas Nagar Colony, RC Puram, is a B.Tech final year student at Institute of Aeronautical Engineering, Dundigal. He had started pirating films for money along with his friend Pavan Kamble (20).
They started the websites on the advice of one of their classmates, said senior police officials, who added that they had made more than Rs 1 lakh this way. The third accused, Tanveer Ahmed, is an MBA graduate from St. Xavier PG College, Gopanapally. After his export business ran into losses, he decided to go for website hosting, operating, and posting pop-up advertisements.
“He would post links of the latest pirated films like Rudramadevi, Baahubali etc. and post them on his website. So far, he and a friend of his from Mumbai had posted about 2,050 films’ links on his website,” said B. Anuradha, ACP, Cyber Crimes. The Cyber Crime police had started an investigation following a complaint from the director of Rudramadevi, Gunasekhar, stating that his movie was being illegally circulated online.
