Inter-state gang of fraudsters land In police net

The gang of fraudsters hailing from different states used to forge bank accounts

Bengaluru: The Tilaknagar police managed to bust an inter-state gang of fraudsters on Sunday evening, with the arrest of two persons. The police caught the two red-handed while they were trying to strike a deal of Rs 20 crore with a pawn broker based in Jayanagar 9th block. Detailed questioning led to the arrest of the other three members, on Monday.

The gang of fraudsters hailing from different states used to forge bank accounts and cheques and con pawn brokers and jewellery shop owners. While Rajeev Gupta alias Javed Khan, 30 and Mohammed Shazi, 35, both hailing from Delhi were caught by the police, the other three members Navratan Sharma, 28, hailing from Haryana, Dharmendra, 44, from Madhya Pradesh, and Joseph, 55, from Tamil Nadu were arrested on Monday.

Investigation revealed that the gang of five unemployed fraudsters hatched a plan to dupe pawn brokers and jewellery shop owners. After carefully studying different metropolitan cities, the gang decided to strike in Bengaluru.

Rajeev Gupta alias Javed Khan and Mohammed Shazi received a call from Joseph, who had spent several years in Italy and helped the gang members forge bank accounts and cheques, took a flight from Delhi on Sunday and straight away headed to a pawn broker shop based out in Jayanagar on the pretext of working with Sobha Developers and attempted to strike a deal of '20 crore by producing fake Aadhaar cards as originals.

However, the two ran out of luck when the alert shop owner grew suspicious and secretly alerted the police who rushed to the spot and caught the two red-handed. A detailed probe led to the duo confessing to the crime. Based on the information given, the police arrested Navratan Sharma and Dharmendra from HSR Layout and Joseph from Whitefield.
