Honor 7 review: Finger play!

Honor's flagship smartphone brings fingerprint scanning to mainstream devices

Scanning your finger to unlock your phone seems to be the new hot feature in smart phones these days. True, the concept has been around for a few months in an odd device or two, but fingerprint sensors are now going mainstream and Honor has launched it in their flagship phone for 2015, Honor 7.

Self-learning sensor

The device features what is claimed as the world's first non-metallic ring fingerprint scanner. This means the scanner, which is housed in the back panel of the device, is totally non-intrusive and doesn't jut out like those in other devices. The sensor is self-learning and the more you use it, the more it learns about your fingerprint, understands the sensitivity of your finger, and is intelligent enough to understand subtle changes in your fingerprint as you grow older.

Your personal function key

Another interesting feature in the Honor 7 is the knuckle screenshot. You can double-tap the screen with your knuckles and then crop the areas of the screen to save the screen and take a snapshot. Honor has also included a smart key in the side panel of the device -- a customizable button that can open the apps or tools of your choice with a single tap, double tap or long press.

Hungry camera

The Honor 7 comes with a 20MP back and 8MP front camera with an innovative 'good food' mode, a camera setting that is optimized for food photographs. Feature a 26mm wide angle lens, the device features a de-mist filter and multiple beautification modes to make your selfie look prettier.

Powered by a HiSilicon octa-core Kirin 935 processor with 3GB RAM and 16GB ROM, the Honor 7 comes with Huawei’s Signal+ technology and a smart dual-antenna design allows for the networks with stronger signals to be found at 80-times the average speed of similar devices.

We got to preview the device and can vouch for the fact that the Honor 7 packs in a lot of innovative features, most of which are created at Huawei's R&D labs in Bangalore. At Rs 22,999, we feel it's a good price for a phone that does so many things efficiently. The Honor 7 will be available from October 15 from Flipkart.
