Yuvaraj surrenders amid high drama

Namakkal: After playing hide and seek for more than 100 days, Yuvaraj, the main accused in the sensational murder of Dalit youth Gokulraj, surrendered before CB-CID police in Namakkal on Sunday.

As Yuvaraj had circulated a message on WhatsApp announcing that he would surrender on Sunday, the police were conducting vehicle checks across Namakkal to arrest him in advance before his surrender.

However, Yuvaraj gave a slip to the cops, arriving in a different avatar, riding pillion on a two wheeler to surrender at around 11am at the CBCID office. There was high drama as thousands of his supporters gathered before the CB-CID office anticipating his arrival. Yuvaraj was given a hero’s welcome by supporters shouting slogans.

Yuvaraj told journalists that he would face the case legally and prove that the charges against him are false. “Officials, who led the investigations in a wrong way triggering the death of Vishnupriya should be punished. I will strive to get punishment for all those officials, who did wrong,” he said.

Yuvaraj then gave a petition to CB-CID superintendent of police Nagajothi claiming that he had no links with the murder of Dalit youth Gokulraj. “I had been framed in the murder case due to political influences to curb the activities of Dheeran Chinnamalai Gounder Peravai,” he said.

The Dalit engineering graduate Gokulraj, who was in love with a girl from Gounder community, was murdered and his body was abandoned on a railway track about three months ago in Tiruchengode.

In a shocking turn, the young police officer and Tiruchengode DSP R Vishnupriya, who was probing the murder case, was found hanging from the ceiling of the bedroom of her official residence on September 18.

Yuvaraj, who continued to remain in hiding, was sending WhatsApp audio messages to tease the police and finally surrendered claiming the probe is progressing in the right direction. A team of CB-CID cops led by SP Nagajothi are interrogating him.
