Policy silent on private sector: Niti Aayog

The think tank also suggested an equitable financing model for healthcare
New Delhi: The Niti Aayog, taking into account the harsh reality that benefits of subsidies would be hogged by the rich and well-connected while the poor would be forced to make informal payments to avail these “free” services, has said it will be harmful to expose the healthcare sector to such an “untargeted subsidy regime”.
The think tank also suggested an equitable financing model for healthcare, where resource mobilisation can be done through households according to paying capacity. The Aayog said that the draft policy was largely silent on greater engagement with the private sector, except for “expressing intent of regulating their quality through appropriate legislation.
