Karimnagar: A 22-year-old youth and his lover committed suicide by jumping into a farm well at Koheda mandal headquarters on Saturday night as they were rejected by their elders, police said.
A man who tried to rescue the couple was injured. Koheda SI M. Nilu said the dead couple was identified as Jeripothula Naveen and Kodimunja Shireesha, both natives of the BC Colony in Koheda. They were in love for some years.
Shireesha, a degree student and Naveen, a resident of her locality, were in love. The pair committed suicide as their parents rejected their proposal for marriage although they belonged to the same community. They had a fight with their elders before the incident, police said.
The parents of Shireesha reportedly finalised a match for her with some other man. Naveen's parents were reluctant to allow him marry Shireesha.
