LDF seeks special session on Munnar
Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF will seek a special session of the Assembly on the Munnar issue and a delegation led by Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan will meet Governor P. Sathasivam in this regard. The LDF MLAs will also take out a march in front of the secretariat on October 15 in solidarity with the Munnar strike.
LDF convener Vaikom Viswan told reporters after a meeting of the LDF here on Sunday that the political situation in the state was favourable for the LDF.
The coalition would win the local body elections. This was the reason why the state government tried to delay the election process. It was also only after the agitations of the LDF that the government announced election dates, he added.
Mr Viswan said that the LDF was committed to ending the garbage crisis in the state. A scientific sewage system will be introduced in cities. The LDF would also create bioparks after cleaning the garbage collection centres.
The UDF government had tried to destroy local bodies by derailing the decentralized planning process. Its rule had resulted in the fall of prices of agriculture products and destruction of the public sector companies, he said.
