Centre taking steps to resolve fishermen’s issue: H Raja

Vellore: The Centre was taking all possible steps to find a permanent solution to the vexed and long-standing problems faced by Tamil Nadu fishermen who are frequently under indiscriminate attacks by the Sri Lankan Navy.

The BJP national secretary H. Raja told reporters here on Saturday that when the Central government was ‘taking several steps’ to permanently resolve the fishermen’s issue, the latter’s representatives should come forward to hold talks with Govern ment of India on the issues. A major Rs 2000 crore deep sea fishing plan was being drawn up, he hinted.

Regarding the housemaid from Vellore district, Ms Kasthuri, whose hand was chopped off allegedly by her employer in Saudi Arabia, Mr Raja expressed deep shock and pain at the incident. The External Affairs minister, Ms Sushma Swaraj was carefully taking all necessary steps to help the aggrieved family, the BJP leader disclosed.

On the beef ban issue, Mr Raja said only eight State governments in the country have allowed beef eating. In other states, a ban on cow slaughter has been in force, he claimed and added that actor Kamalhaasan’s views on beef eating was far from being enlightened.
