Tripunithura police to seek custody of accused in extortion case
KOCHI: Tripunithura police investigating the blackmailing and extortion case using a woman may seek the help of the Enforcement Directorate to unravel the source of the financial resources of Narayana Das, the first accused in the case.
The police will also seek custody of the accused for further interrogation in the coming days. Police sources said that an application will be filed in the court seeking custody of the accused on Monday or Tuesday.
Currently, all the accused are in judicial custody. The help of an agency like enforcement directorate will be solicited for verifying the assets of the first accused.
The high-luxury house owned by Das near Eroor in Tripunithura alone is estimated to be Rs 2 crore.
Apart from the house in Tripunithura the accused also owned a flat in an apartment complex in Bengaluru.
The police wanted to confirm whether all these wealth was amassed through blackmailing and extortion alone or through some other means.
The probe team meanwhile is also on the trail of three more members of the gang suspected to be based in Bengaluru.
According to the police the three were present when one of the victims of the gang was taken to an apartment in Bengaluru.
The police has arrested six persons, including the woman used for luring wealthy businessmen, in connection with the case so far.
