Hyderabad: Government staff who went on a 43-day strike in 2011 for statehood are angry that they are not being compensated for their ‘service break’ by the TRS administration. Besides, the employees had gone on a ‘non-cooperation movement’ prior to the strike, and had boycotted duties for 20 days.
Employees now face a ‘service break’ for 62 days. If it is not regularised, they face the risk of losing both financially and professionally in the form of earned leaves, salary, promotions, increments etc.
To show their anger at the delay in regularising their services, employees associations are planning a pen-down strike. The Kiran Kumar Reddy government had treated the Sakala Janula Samme period as ‘earned leave’ and full salary. However, the employees — about three lakh Telangana staff had gone on strike — lost 62 earned leaves.
Each employee is entitled to 30 ELs in a year, which they can encash if they do not utilise them. Those who had exhausted the ELs by the time the strike began in 2011 lost their salaries.
Those who were in service during the strike period and retired later lost retirement benefits due to the ‘service break’. Over 30,000 employees have been affected by the TS inaction.
