Tank, a bone of contention
Khammam: When Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been struggling to settle various issues like division of employees and sharing of funds pertaining to corporations as part of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, another problem surfaced.
A small tank located amidst fields in Allinagaram under Madhira mandal turned out to be a controversy between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The genesis of the issue arose when the farmers of Machinenipalem under Vastavai mandal in Andhra Pradesh claim water from the water source. But, the farmers of Allinagaram are objecting to it by arguing that the tank water is meant for their fields in Telangana. In united Andhra Pradesh, the tank water was used by the peasants of the both the villages. After the division, the locals of Allinagaram claimed the rights on the water source.
The villagers of the both villages were often at loggerheads on sharing the water. Sub-inspectors of Madhira and Vastavai visited the village and interacted with the locals. They convinced them that the issue will be resolved by the mandal revenue officers. Is the tank located in Telangana or Andhra Pradesh, is the question.
The issue was taken to the notice of tahsildar of Madhira, Kasula Rajendra Kumar by Allinagaram farmers and Vastavai tahsildar, B. Srinivas Naik by Machinenipalem farmers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh respectively. They decided to conduct survey on the tank on the issue of finalising the border of the water source. Both of them, came to conclusion on involving surveyors of the both sides.
K. Appa Rao, a farmer from Allinagaram said that there will be a chance of clash between the two villages if the government fails to solve it at the earliest.
“There were minor to major disputes on the borders of land at various villages because Khammam district has 350 kilometre border with Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh and many such issues will come in future and both the states should settle them amicably,” he said.
