Sivagangai rape case: Lawyer mowed down by autorickshaw
The girl has also named senior police officers in her statement to a magistrate
Chennai: An unidentified gang in an autorickshaw knocked the two-wheeler of an Advocate and social activist T. Vincent near Madras high court on Saturday evening leaving him with a fracture on his right hand.
Vincent had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Madras high court on October 4, the revelation of which shook the police circles in the state. A police sub-inspector Shankar was recently arrested on charges of raping a minor girl in Sivagangai. The girl has also named senior police officers in her statement to a magistrate.
The girl was raped by her father, brother, relatives and policemen among others and had to twice undergo abortion. The girl in her statement has named Sivagangai police inspector Siva Kumar and the arrested SI and accused them of raping her when she approached them with a complaint.
Further investigations are underway in the case and the Sivagangai police are expected to submit a report at the Madras HC by November 3. “Ever since I filed the PIL, there have been numerous threats over phone to me. I never paid heed to them as investigations were underway,” Vincent told DC.
On Saturday evening around 3 pm, he was riding his two-wheeler along the Thambu Setty street when the incident happened. “A speeding auto rickshaw hit my two-wheeler from behind. I fell to my right and suffered an injury. The auto fled without stopping,” Vincent recalled.
He strongly suspects the role of his detractors who want the case to be stalled. “I have given a statement to the traffic investigation personnel. I was wearing a helmet, so couldn’t note down the registration number of the other vehicle,” he said.
