No Dasara holiday for Andhra Pradesh government staff

They would be participating in the Amaravati foundation stone-laying ceremony

Hyderabad: Most of the IAS, IPS officers and employees of the AP government would not be able to celebrate this Dasara with their families at their homes in Hyderabad or other parts of AP. They would be participating in the Amaravati foundation stone-laying ceremony that coincides with the festival on October 22.

This is not the first time that the government officers and employees will miss celebrating a major festival with their families, post bifurcation. Last year, many All India Service officers and government employees could not celebrate Diwali as they were involved in the post-Hudhud rehabilitation work in the four districts.

“No doubt Dasara is a major festival and it is a public holiday, but the foundation stone laying ceremony will be a historic event. How many would get an opportunity to be a part of such a historic event?,” a senior IAS officer said. AP Government Employees Association leaders said they have yet not decided whether to seek a holiday the next day, October 23.
