Srinagar: A militant was killed in anovernight encounter with security forces in Handwara area of North Kashmir's Kupwara district.
"One militant has been killed so far. The operation is still in progress as there are inputs about presence of more militants in the area," an army official said.
The encounter broke out in the forests of Wader Bala in Zachaldara, 100 kms from Srinagar, on Saturday after security forces launched a cordon and search operation following information about presence of militants there, the official said.
He said there were no casualties on the security forces side in the operation so far.
According to reports, Army's 21 RR, 6 RR and the police have launched massive searches in several forest areas connecting Hafruda area for last several days since four Army personnel were killed in an attack on October 5 in Tilpathri forest area.
One militant was killed in Dardpora area of Lolab on October 5.
